Dr. Judy Tintinalli is Professor and Chair Emeritus of Emergency Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine. She serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Policy & Administration at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, and frequently lectures on Medical Journalism at the UNC School of Journalism & Mass Communication. In 1991, Dr. Tintinalli founded the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors, and served as the Council’s first president until 2007.

Dr. Tintinalli has worked on UNC faculty for over two decades. She received an MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine, and completed her residency at the University of Michigan School of Medicine, where she also obtained an MPH. Dr. Tintinalli’s research interests encompass a variety of topics related to emergency medicine, including trauma in pregnant women and emergency medical evaluation of psychiatric patients. Her recent awards include being named the NC Emergency Physician of the year in 2007, and the ACEP Hero of Emergency of Medicine in 2008.  She is Editor-in-Chief of multiple textbooks, including seven editions of Tintinalli’s Emergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide, a staple of emergency medicine education.
