2014 UNC Nutrition Obesity Research Center Pilot & Feasibility Grant Program

The UNC Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) is currently accepting pre-proposals for 1-2 year grants of approximately $20,000 per year for pilot & feasibility research projects in nutrition or obesity.

Pilot & Feasibility (P&F) projects may be biomedical, epidemiological, or clinical. They may include laboratory or non-laboratory research projects that focus either on human nutrition or on animal work that could be translated to human nutrition. Human nutrition projects may focus on inpatient or outpatient studies or on epidemiological or community-based research that is social or behavioral in nature. In addition to funding projects under our core focus areas (Diet, Physical Activity and Body Composition; Molecular Biology and Nutritional Biochemistry; Nutrition Communication for Health Applications and Interventions (CHAI); and Animal Metabolism Phenotyping), we are also interested in funding projects that focus on Nutrigenomics (genome-wide association studies and mouse genetics), Bioinformatics, Clinical Research, Metabolomics, and the use of the Collaborative Cross mouse resource or the Mobile Body Composition Trailer.

Criteria for Eligibility

• Applicant must be a faculty member at UNC-CH
• A new investigator without current or past NIH research support (R01, P01 or R24) as a PD/PI
• An established, funded investigator with no previous work in nutritional sciences, and/or obesity who wishes to test the applicability of their expertise to a nutritional science and/or obesity-related problem
