Dr. Chafic Karam accepts Chancellor Folt's ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Following her own ice water bath, Folt named our own Chafic Karam, MD, assistant professor of neurology, to follow suit. The Ice Bucket Challenge was designed to raise awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Since July 29, the ALS Association and its 38 chapters have received $4 million in donations.

On Wednesday, Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt sent the challenge to Chancellor Carol L. Folt, who took the challenge as well as making a donation to fight ALS. Later, Folt  challenged N.C. State Chancellor Randy Woodson and UNC assistant professor of neurology, Dr. Chafic Karam whose clinical interests focus on ALS.
