New Round of SOM Bridge Funding

Submissions for the current round of SOM Bridge Funding are currently being accepted. The deadline for submission is Jan. 15, 2015.

The School of Medicine is accepting applications for the second round of Bridge Funding for this fiscal year.  Bridge Funding provides continued support for successful research projects that suffer a lapse in funding while revising a competitive renewal application. The deadline for this round of application submissions is Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015

To qualify, investigators should have had a competing renewal application for an R01 or equivalent grant reviewed after Oct. 2014.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. The application has been reviewed and received a written critique
  2. The PI has no more than two active R01s or the equivalent level of funding
  3. The PI does not have additional sources of lab support, e.g. trust fund
  4. If the grant’s NIH number identifies the grant as a "new" grant, it could still be eligible for bridge funding.  As part of the application, please include a letter explaining the "new" grant’s relationship to a previously funded R01.  For example, if the competitive renewal of a previous R01 was not funded (including those at the A1 stage), then the specific aims were significantly changed to strengthen the application and resulted in the submission qualifying as a "new" submission
  5. The department agrees to match the funding from the Dean’s Office

Bridge funding will not be provided for faculty submitting a first-time R01 based on research from a K grant.

To apply for this program, you MUST submit your current 3-4 page NIH biosketch, the research section of the original grant application, the NIH critique, a draft of the rebuttal that will be submitted with the revised application and a proposed budget for the bridge funds.  The maximum amount of the award from the Dean’s Office is $50,000.  In addition, you must include a letter of support from your chair or center director that pledges a dollar-for-dollar matching commitment.  Applications missing any of these items will not be reviewed.

The deadline for submission of applications is 5 P.M. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 and awards will be announced in early February.  Submit the required application materials as pdfs  to:  , G060 Bondurant. Please contact Jennifer with any questions, 962-5977.
