We need your help to tell North Carolinians that health insurance is available now! There are only 33 more days to enroll in the new health insurance available via the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a.: Obamacare or health care reform or the marketplace). Uninsured North Carolinians can enroll at www.healthcare.gov. By calling 855-733-3711, they can also get an appointment with a navigator who will help them enroll and offer free expert advice.
Unfortunately, more than 40 percent of the uninsured do not know about the new marketplace, and 72 percent of the uninsured do not know they might get financial help to pay for their premium. SNMA is collaborating with Enroll America to help educate Orange County/Chatham County members concerning the opportunities for enrolling in the State Healthcare Marketplace. We will require students to receive basic training (in a 45-minute session) and participate in outreach events.
The events will involve tabling and/or phone bank activities to schedule enrollment navigator appointments. You will be able to: (1) Explain the new health benefits covered under the health law, (2) Ask adults to fill out information cards, and (3) Schedule appointments with Marketplace navigators via the computer system. Shifts will occur in 3-hour bundles throughout the month of March. There will be weekday events and weekend events. You can even work from campus during a phone bank night or visit Chatham county table sites for person-to-person fun!
All students will receive service-hour credit for their contributions to this effort. All levels of students and laypersons are welcome because helping just ONE adult enroll and access new services is an accomplishment to be proud of! Click here to view the website here for a short video on the outreach efforts. The outreach efforts will be TEAM-oriented so feel free to grab a few friends and join the EnrollAmerica statewide group in helping others to enroll.
Any interested student is asked to sign this Google Doc in order to coordinate training in the coming weeks. We ask that each interested person agree to at least two (2) event days.
Thank you all for reading and even more for supporting past and future advocacy efforts!
