Mary Anne Dooley, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Medicine, is retiring from the UNC Health Care System after 23 years of devoted service to our patients, our referring physicians, the UNC School of Medicine, and the people of North Carolina.

For decades the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery has trained medical students and residents. The first chairman of the Division of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery was Newton D. Fischer. Dr. Fischer's enduring emphasis on medical students and resident education, as well as on research, continues to shape the philosophy of the department to this day.
