UNC Hospitals Achieves New Status as Accredited Chest Pain Center
Hospitals that have received Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC) accreditation have achieved a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack, emphasizing the importance of treatment programs that provide more efficient and effective evaluation as well as rapid treatment of patients with chest pain and other heart attack symptoms.

Caring for Children in Haiti: 2014
Joshua Alexander, MD, director of pediatric rehabilitation at the N.C. Children’s Hospital and associate professor at UNC Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, will be caring once again for disabled children at the Zanmi Beni Orphanage in Haiti this May, along with Timothy Sanford, MD, a medical resident in PM&R. Zanmi Beni was created to care for physically and/or mentally handicapped orphans, who were displaced by the devastating earthquake in January 2010.

Mauro Receives Society of Interventional Radiology Gold Medal
UNC Department of Radiology Chair Matthew A. Mauro, MD, FSIR, received the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Gold Medal at SIR's 39th Annual Scientific Meeting on March 25, 2014. The SIR Gold Medal, the Society's highest career honor, is bestowed for distinguished and extraordinary service to SIR or to the discipline of interventional radiology.

An ad hoc committee has been appointed to undertake a routine administrative review of the leadership provided by Gary Johnson, PhD, in his position as Chair of the Department of Pharmacology. The review will take place over the next four to five weeks. The committee invites your written or verbal comments, suggestions, and relevant information.
