Cross College Book Drive begins Nov. 3
From Nov. 3 - Dec. 4, medical students will collect children’s books to donate to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at UNC Hospitals. The books will be sent to the Book Fairy organization, which delivers them directly to the patients. Last year more than 1,100 books were donated.
Partnerships, cancer research in Malawi to expand with new grant
UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the UNC Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases have received a $3.7 million grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to study the growing worldwide cancer problem and expand the University’s efforts in Malawi to study and treat HIV-associated cancers.
4th Annual UNC Kenan-Flagler Healthcare Conference
Each year, the Kenan-Flagler Healthcare Conference attracts around 400 attendees from both academia and industry. This year’s topics will include: Innovating the Product Pipeline, Digital Health and Patient Privacy, Big Data in Healthcare, and Healthcare Finance, as well as an Entrepreneurship Showcase.
WRAL documentary - “A Call for Help”
John Gilmore, MD, Director for the Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health was interviewed for the WRAL Documentary “A Call for Help" which aired last week. This documentary examines the Keith Vidal story, and looks at new training designed to help officers interact with mentally ill or mentally distressed people, to help calm those interactions and avoid violence or arrest. Chelminski Appointed Director of UNC Physician Assistant Program
Stephen Hooper, PhD, Chair of the Department of Allied Health Sciences (DAHS) and Associate Dean for the UNC School of Medicine, has appointed Paul Chelminski, MD, MPH, as the new Director of the Physician Assistant (PA) master’s degree program currently under development within DAHS.
