Guest Speaker - James Meigs

James Meigs, MD, MPH, will be visiting on Thursday September 25, 2014. He is on the faculty at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and the Chair of the American Diabetes Association's Council on Epidemiology and Statistics.

Dr. Meigs is an associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is an assistant physician in the General Medicine Division, Clinical Epidemiology Unit, and Diabetes Research Unit, at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He serves as Director of the MGH Clinical Research Program’s Disease Management Research Unit, as well as the Chair of the American Diabetes Association's Council on Epidemiology and Statistics.

Dr. Meigs' research focuses primarily on the cause and prevention of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. His epidemiologic research focuses on biochemical and genetic causes of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, while his health services research focuses on trials of medical informatics applications providing provider decision support and population registry management for type 2 diabetes care. He is also an Associate Editor of Obesity Research and a member of several local and national diabetes care improvement advisory boards.
