Williams comes to UNC Health Care after 31 years at Mission Health in Asheville, including more than 15 years in the role of Senior Vice President and Corporate Compliance Officer. Williams replaces Margaret Dardess, PhD, JD, who has served in this role on an interim basis since February 2014.

At UNC Health Care, Williams will oversee the Audit and Compliance Office and its staff, including audit, compliance and privacy functions. The office is charged with ensuring that the UNC Health Care compliance, audit and privacy program are consistent with UNC Health Care’s mission and values, meet the highest standards of ethical and professional behavior and comply fully with all applicable laws and regulations. Williams will provide oversight of network-wide internal audit, privacy and compliance priorities by developing and implementing institutional risk assessments, providing appropriate education and information, guiding resource investments for monitoring, and auditing and analyzing the results of UNC Health Care’s internal audit efforts.

Finally, Williams will serve as the senior official providing guidance to UNC Health Care leadership on emerging federal, state and local compliance-related issues, as well as recommendations on internal controls, fraud elimination and mitigation, and other assurance based activities.

In Asheville, Williams was deeply involved in the community, serving as both a volunteer and board member for multiple Mission Health organizations, including the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and others. She obtained bachelor’s degrees in French, Business Administration and a Master’s of Business Administration from Western Carolina University.
