UNC/ISMICS Heart Team Summit
A symposium of arrhythmia and lead management alliances, the inaugural UNC/ISMICS Heart Team Summit is appropriate for practicing cardiologists, cardiothoracic/vascular surgeons whose scope of practice includes or will include cardiothoracic/vascular surgery. This course is designed for both experienced surgeons who are new to Arrthythmia and Lead Management, residents who are learning new surgery techniques and Nurses who work in the field. Course directors are UNC Cardiothoracic Division Chief Andy Kiser, MD and Anil Gehi, MD, Associate Professor of Cardiology.

The 183-member class selected Myron Cohen, MD, director of UNC’s Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases, as its commencement speaker.

Sunshine Act Updates – Open Payments Update: Review and Dispute Period Reminder
The Open Payments system opened for review and dispute on April 6, 2015. The 45-day review and dispute process for physicians and teaching hospitals, which occurs after applicable manufacturers submit their payment data to CMS and before the data becomes public, will close on May 21.

UNC's Spyryx Biosciences secures series A financing
Spyryx Biosciences, Inc., a privately-held biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics for respiratory diseases, including cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), announced today that it has secured $18 million in Series A venture capital financing from Canaan Partners, Hatteras Venture Partners and 5AM Ventures. Spyrx was formed in 2013 to leverage a discovery by UNC researcher Robert Tarran, PhD.
