Alpha Foundation for the Improvement of Mine Safety and Health, Inc. - Call for Proposals

The Alpha Foundation supports research projects that have practical implications on mine safety and health for workers, operators and policymakers. Emphasis is placed on early transition and rapid dissemination of project findings. Concept paper deadline is Feb. 1, 2016.

The Alpha Foundation supports research projects that have practical implications on mine safety and health for workers, operators and policymakers. Emphasis is placed on the early translation and rapid dissemination of project findings. The Foundation is seeking to fund research in the following areas:

    • Roof and rib failure prevention
    • Hardrock roof support injury prevention
  • Mine Escape, Rescue and Training
    • Communication and tracking reliability and survivability studies
    • Extending range of emergency response communications
    • Emergency response behavioral studies
    • Holistic design for refuge alternatives
    • Incident command and operations research
  • Safety & Health Management and Training
    • Risk stratification studies
    • Performance impact indicators
    • Training retention studies
    • Human behavior role in accidents
  • Injury and Disease Exposure and Risk Factors
    • Musculoskeletal disorders
    • Asthma disorders
    • Rock dusting health issues
    • Noise exposure health issues
    • Surveillance and epidemiology methods
