New Weight and Lifestyle Medicine Service

A new Weight and Lifestyle Medicine Service, offered by UNC Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the UNC Hospitals Spine Center aims to help adults with a BMI of 30 or greater to lose weight and improve their lifestyle.

The focus of this new service is holistic wellness. For example, working on diet, better sleep, stress reduction, and exercise can improve your health and happiness.

Angela Lipscomb-Hudson, MD, evaluates each patient's health and wellness, creating an individualized wellness plan, focusing on weight loss.

Lipscomb-Hudson is an assistant professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and has won several awards for her research and teaching excellence.

Her interests include obesity and weight management, health coaching, rehabilitation of neurological disorders, and general rehabilitation. As a rehabilitation physician (physiatrist), Hudson aims to optimize health and function of individuals through a patient-centered continuum of care, with the goal of improving the quality of life for each individual.

Services may include:

  • Dietary counseling
  • Behavioral counseling
  • Exercise counseling
  • Psychological counseling
  • Medication management 

Patients will have access to: *

  • Physical therapy
  • Dietitian
  • Clinical psychologist for behavioral and psychological counseling
  • UNC Wellness Center nutritionists, personal trainers, and staff
