The Muscular Dystrophy Association is accepting letters of intent to fund senior postdoctoral researchers on the brink of becoming independent investigators. These awards are intended as seed money to help launch the scientific programs of new neuromuscular disease researchers. Eligible applicants must have an MD, PhD, DSc or equivalent degree and must have a minimum of 18 months of post-degree (MD or PhD) research laboratory training at the time of application and be no more than 60 months from receiving their most recent advanced degree (e.g. PhD, MD or equivalent), have a strong record of achievement with their postdoctoral mentor and not have been funded under the Development Grant program in the past. Applications should directly relate to a disease in MDA’s program (link here for full list of diseases) and should focus on accelerating therapy development for the disease(s) in question. MDA is also seeking applications that may result in new understanding of disease etiology and pathogenesis in neuromuscular disorders where these are not well understood. Successful applications will include a training plan which details how the applicant will receive the necessary training and mentorship to transition to an independent research career. Development Grant applications are limited to one application per lab per application cycle. Indirect cost is limited to 10 percent of all direct costs.

LOI Deadline: Dec. 15. Invited full applications will be due January 31, 2017. Application Guidelines for the award: https://www.mda.org/sites/all/themes/mda_bootstrap_subtheme/pdf/DEVELOPMENT-GRANT-APP-INSTRUCTIONS-060116.pdf
