Victor Garcia-Martinez, Ph.D. and Karen Mohlke, Ph.D. are the 2016 Oliver Smithies Investigators.  They will present highlights from their research on Wednesday, November 9th in 1131 Bioinformatics from 12:00-1:00 pm.  Prior to the lectures refreshments will be served in the lobby starting at 11:30.  The Oliver Smithies Investigators Program recognizes senior SOM research faculty who have made major contributions within and beyond their disciplines.  The Program honors Dr. Oliver Smithies, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (2007) and a distinguished faculty member at UNC for more than 25 years.  The title of Dr. Garcia-Martinez's lecture is How mice that are naturally resistant to HIV infection became outstanding models for AIDS research.  The title of Dr. Mohlke's lecture is Genetic variants and mechanisms influencing susceptibility to type 2 diabetes.  Please join us in honoring our newest Smithies Investigators.
