Beacon Program to sponsor events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

UNC Hospitals' Beacon program will sponsor two events on Oct. 13 in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

On Oct. 13, the Beacon program will host two events in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. First, the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence's Silent Witness exhibit will be on display on the lobby stage in the Children's Hospital. The Silent Witness Initiative is an educational exhibit that consists of life-sized red figures that represent the lives of women and children who are murdered in acts of domestic violence. Each figure tells the story of one actual North Carolina victim. At the display, additional information and resources about domestic violence will be available.

At 6:30 p.m. "Behind Closed Doors," a documentary about domestic violence, will be screened at the Varsity Theater on Franklin St. in Chapel Hill. This event is co-sponsored by Beacon, the Carolina Women's Center, and the Compass Center.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a held across the United States each October to raise awareness about domestic violence and prevention efforts.
