Zach Willis, MD, MPH, is the director of the pediatric antimicrobial stewardship program at North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Acknowledging that the vast majority of antibiotic prescriptions are for outpatients, his primary research interest is in the very new field of outpatient antibiotic stewardship. He will review evidence from the CDC and other sources demonstrating the very clear need for stewardship in the ambulatory setting and discuss potential strategies that our providers can use in their clinics to address this important problem.

Elizabeth Walters, BSN, RN, a former infection preventionist at UNC, will present her experience using Quality Improvement methods to achieve stewardship goals in the UNC Pediatric Emergency Department.
