Join us Friday, March 10th, at 12:00 pm in 1131 Bioinformatics Building for lectures by the 2016-17 Yang Family Biomedical Scholars, Edward Miao (MD/PhD) and Garret Stuber (PhD). A reception will follow in the lobby. This award is made possible through a generous gift from Yuanqing Yang, the Chairman and CEO of Lenovo, to recognize the research achievements of young tenured faculty at the UNC School of Medicine. Drs. Miao and Stuber are the second class of Yang Scholars, following the 2015 Yang Scholars Drs. Jonathan Berg, Maureen Su and Yisong Wang.
Dr. Miao, Associate Professor of Microbiology & Immunology, uses various bacterial pathogens to probe cytosolic sensor pathways that defend against pathogens. His talk is titled "Innate Immunity Prevents the Purple Death". Dr. Stuber, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, is interested in delineating the precise neural circuitry that underlies maladaptive behaviors that are implicated in a variety of neurological and neuropsychiatric illnesses. His talk is titled "Harnessing Neurotechnology to Unravel the Biological Basis of Motivation".
