The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations has identified the following private funding opportunity:
Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation: Damon Runyon Fellowship Award
The Foundation is seeking applications for theoretical and experimental research relevant to the study of cancer and the search for cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies and prevention. Applicants must have completed one or more of the following degrees or its equivalent: MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DDS, DVM. Candidates must apply for the fellowship under the guidance of a Sponsor – a scientist (tenured, tenure-track or equivalent position) capable of providing mentorship to the Fellow. Candidates who have already accepted a postdoctoral fellowship award are not eligible.
- Level 1 funding is awarded to basic and physician-scientists who have received their degrees no more than one year prior to the FC meeting at which their applications will be considered. Applicants cannot have been in their Sponsors’ labs for more than one year prior to the date of the FAC meeting and are expected to devote 100% of their time and effort to Damon Runyon-supported research activities.
Please note that for new awards starting January 1, 2017 or later, the Foundation will no longer offer Level 2 funding (all Fellows will receive the same stipend amount). Awards will be made to the institution. No more than two Damon Runyon and/or Damon Runyon-Sohn Fellows will be funded to work with the same Sponsor at any given time. Only one fellowship application will be accepted from a Sponsor, co-Sponsor or Fellow per review session; there is no limit, however, to the number of applications from an institution. Applicants may apply for either the Damon Runyon Postdoctoral Fellowship Award or the Damon Runyon-Sohn Pediatric Fellowship Award, not both.
Application Deadline: March 15, 2017. Award notifications made in May 2017 with award beginning on first day of July, August, September or October 2017. Application Guidelines for the award: https://www.damonrunyon.org/for-scientists/application-guidelines/fellowship/forms.
