UNC Hospitals Beacon Program Offers Danger Assessments

The Beacon program can now provide patients, employees, and family members personalized danger assessments to help assess the level of danger that a woman has of being killed or seriously injured by her intimate partner.

Every day, at least three women are murdered by their husbands or intimate partners. The Danger Assessment Instrument is a tool used by law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and domestic violence advocates to help women assess the level of danger that an abused woman that a woman has of being killed or seriously injured by her intimate partner.

The Beacon program, UNC Hospitals family violence intervention program now offers personalized Danger Assessments to patients, their family members, and employees. This service is free and can be accessed by calling Beacon directly at 984-974-0470. The Beacon staff can offer other services including brief counseling, referrals, safety planning, and education about intimate partner violence.
