Enarson receives LCME Distinguished Service Award
Cam Enarson, MD, MBA, has been honored with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) Distinguished Service Award. The LCME Distinguished Service Award was established in 2012 and is conferred at the LCME Service Recognition Award Ceremony and Reception at Learn Serve Lead: The AAMC Annual Meeting. LCME reviews and awards accreditation status to educational programs leading to the MD degrees in both the United States and Canada.
Magnuson elected vice-president and future president of Genetics Society of America
Terry Magnuson, PhD, Sarah Graham Kenan Professor in the Department of Genetics and Vice Chancellor for Research at UNC-Chapel Hill, has been elected 2018 vice president and 2019 president of the Genetics Society of America. Magnuson has previously served GSA as a member of the Board of Directors and as both an Associate and Senior Editor of the GSA journal GENETICS

Steiner discusses research on The State of Things
On Wednesday, Nov. 8, Anne Steiner, MD, MPH, reproductive endocrinologist and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology, was featured on WUNC's The State of Things. Steiner discussed her recent study that refuted previously held notions about fertility tests, suggesting that common markers of low ovarian reserve do not predict infertility in women of late-reproductive age.
Jones to speak on Opioid Use Disorder During Pregnancy at MAHEC
On Monday, November 13, Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) will welcome Hendrée Jones, PhD, to discuss strategies for improving health outcomes for women with opioid use disorder during pregnancy. Jones will also discuss UNC Horizon's collaboration with Project CARA, MAHEC’s perinatal substance use disorder treatment program.

Gerber Foundation: Pediatric Research Grants
UPCOMING DEADLINE: The Gerber Foundation is accepting concept papers for proposals that focus on pediatric health or pediatric nutrition research. Projects focusing on pediatric nutrition focus on applied research that evaluates the provision of specific nutrients and their related outcomes in infants and young children. Award amount varies. The concept paper deadline is December 1, 2017.

Coins for Alzheimer's Researh Trust: CART Research Grants
The CART Fund is accepting Letters of Intent (LOIs) to fund exploratory and development AD research projects within the US. The Fund aims to support projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. Award amount up to $250,000.
