Sylvester Delivers Keynote Address for Latinx Heritage Month

On Oct. 24, Francisco Sylvester, MD, Division Chief for Pediatric Gastroenterology at UNC Hospitals delivered the keynote address for the School of Medicine's celebration of Latinx Heritage Month. Sylvester shared about his personal journey growing up in Peru, multiple migration experiences, and care of the Latinx population in North Carolina.

Prior to the keynote address, the School of Medicine's Latinx Medical Student Association (LMSA) celebrated its year of accomplishments in community service, campus speakers and education, and work promoting educational access and student recruitment at UNC.

LMSA hosted this first ever celebration for Latinx Heritage Month in conjunction with the Carolina Latinx Collaborative and the Office of Special Programs. Food was provided by So Good Pupusas, a non-profit organization that uses its profits to award undergraduate scholarships to undocumented students.
