Harrington Discovery Institute: Gund-Harrington Scholar Awards

The Harrington Discovery Institute (HDI) is accepting Letters of Intent (LOIs) to support innovative research efforts that could prevent, treat or cure blindness. This award is part of the Gund-Harrington Initiative for Fighting Blindness. HDI is particularly interested in the targeting of pathways and processes that might affect retinal dystrophies and vision, with the goal of advancing translation of research into drugs and cell-based therapies. Award amount is up to $300,000 per year for up to three (3) years. The LOI deadline is October 25, 2017.

Pfizer: Independent Grants for Learning & Change (IGLC), DMARD Monotherapy Treatment Options in Rheumatoid Arthritis

UPCOMING DEADLINE REMINDER: Pfizer is accepting applications to encourage organizations to design educational programs to reach clinicians caring for and managing adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Proposals should be designed to improve the rheumatology care teams’ understanding of the evidence for effective use of disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) as monotherapy in managing RA. Programs will be given the highest priority if the proposal consists of targeted education for the entire rheumatology care team. Award amount is up to $250,000. The application deadline is October 2, 2017.

A collaborative, international team at UNC has received a multimillion dollar award to study the mental health of people in Malawi and Tanzania living with a non-communicable disease, like diabetes or hypertension. Non-communicable diseases are the second leading cause of death in Malawi, according to the World Health Organization.
