The annual ‘What I Learned in Medical School’ speech competition was held Friday, April 13. At the event, students from several medical school classes offered reflections and lessons learned from their time as medical students.

The annual ‘What I Learned in Medical School’ speech competition was held Friday, April 13. At the event, students from several medical school classes offered reflections and lessons learned from their time as medical students.
Always a highlight of the UNC Medical Alumni Affairs’ Spring Alumni Weekend, the event drew many graduates as well as current students.
In all, five students offered speeches with lessons learned from patient care, long nights studying with classmates, and dealing with personal tragedy during medical school.
The judges of this year’s event named two co-winners:
– Harish Pudukodu, Class of 2021, representing Smithies College, for his speech “God and the Drowning Fisherman”
– Michael Greenberg, Class of 2018, representing Cross College, for his speech “I-40, Cigarettes, Dogs, etc. Paying Attention in the Clinical Years.”
Other speakers at this year’s event:
– Lee Hong, Class of 2020, representing Williamson College: “They Just Want to Be Seen.”
– Sophia Brancazio, Class of 2019, representing Simkins College: “A Stranger to Surprises.”
– Laila Knio, Class of 2021, representing Cefalo College: “Lungs Held Open.”
