UNC Hospitals is very pleased to announce the appointment of Peggy McNaull, MD, as Associate Chief Medical Officer for Quality and Safety. Dr. McNaull is a pediatric cardiovascular anesthesiologist and Vice Chair for Quality in the Department of Anesthesiology. Peggy started her career in nursing, which she continued even as she transitioned into medical school at LSU. She began her career at UNC as a resident in 2003 and has been with us since. She brings extensive knowledge and leadership experience in performance improvement and patient safety. In her new role, she will lead several areas of improvement work with emphasis on mortality reduction, Just Culture, preventing patient harms, and many others.

Dr. McNaull will replace Dr. Tina Willis in this role. Tina has been an incredibly effective leader, helping UNC achieve significant advances in key areas of clinical quality, serving as director of the Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement, co-chair of the Medical Center Improvement Council, and as a staunch advocate for patients and families. Her impacts will be appreciated for years to come, and we wish her the best in her new endeavors.
