Attendees This course is designed for general education and special education teachers, psychologists, speech and language therapists, and other professionals working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the general education classroom following the standard course of study.

This two-day workshop will focus on educating students ages 6-19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who spend the majority of their day in the general education classroom following the standard course of study.  Participants will learn about the characteristics of ASD and strategies to address educational and social emotional issues that affect success in the general education classroom.   A panel of parents will share their personal experiences.   The format will be presentation, video and small group activities.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • State educational needs of students with ASD that are served in a general education classroom
  • Develop individualized educational strategies using principals of Structured TEACCHing
  • Develop strategies to address emotional regulation and coping issues
  • Address challenging behaviors in the classroom using an antecedent based problem solving approach
  • Understand the perspective of parents of children with ASD

1.23 CEUs are available upon completion of the entire course.
