HS Awareness Week Declaration

June 4-10 has been designated Hidradenitis Suppurativa Awareness week in North Carolina by Governor Roy Cooper. The declaration points out the need for greater awareness and understanding of HS in the community as it typically goes unrecognized despite being quite common. The efforts of the UNC Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center in particular have been highlighted in the declaration where a subspecialty care clinic run by Christopher Sayed, MD, has been developed for meeting the needs of this patient population.

UNC Plastic Surgery, Urology, Pain Medicine, and others have taken an active role in the care of these patients, making UNC a major source of support for these patients. An online and in-person support group, Hope for HS of the NC Triangle, has also started meeting in the last year and helped advocate for this recognition. The next Hope for HS meeting will be at the UNC Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center at 410 Market Street in Chapel Hill on July 12, 2018. Additional details can be found on the Hope for HS of the NC Triangle Facebook page.
