In August, the new President of the Academy of Educators, Amy Shaheen, MD, MSc, welcomed ten faculty members to the inaugural Leadership Council.  The Leadership Council is expanding both the Academy’s breadth and quality of faculty development offerings.  With two new committees, Programming and Scholarship, the council is preparing to launch a needs assessment survey, host a variety of Faculty Development workshops, create a Mentored Member program, develop collaborations with AHEC sites, and enhance the scholarship of members. The assessment will query faculty about their needs and educational experience.  Departments will also be surveyed regarding resources provided for educational scholarship.

The Leadership Council consists of six faculty elected from over 400 current members, past Academy presidents Alice Chuang, MD, MEd and Richard Wardrop, MD, PhD, and two PhD members appointed by current President, Dr. Amy Shaheen.  The Academy’s leadership would like to welcome Jason Crowner, MD (Surgery), Benny Joyner, MD, MPH (Pediatrics), Susan Martinelli, MD (Anesthesiology), Christina Shenvi, MD, PhD (Emergency Medicine), Lindsay Wilson, MD, MPH (Medicine), Eric Zwemer, MD (Pediatrics), Fei Chen, PhD (Anesthesiology) and Gary Beck Dallaghan, PhD (Office of Medical Education).
