Faculty, students, and alumni from the division of clinical laboratory science continue to lead in their fields, including in work with the American Society for Clinical Pathology and with the North Carolina Association of Blood Bankers.

Division of Clinical Laboratory Science Alumni Continue to Lead at the NCABB

The North Carolina Association of Blood Bankers (NCABB) held its 46th annual NCABB fall meeting in Concord, North Carolina in September. Division of Clinical Laboratory Science class of 2003 graduate Rebecca Perry Coward, MT(ASCP)SBBCM, was named president elect. Class of 2001 graduate Angela Mahathey, MT(ASCP), has just finished her term as past president following her term as president in 2017. Additional alumni involvement includes the following:

  • Tara Moon, PhD, MLS(ASCP)CM, class of 1996, served as NCABB president in 2015
  • Caroline Immel, MT(ASCP), class of 1993 served as NCABB president in 2014
  • Rebecca Bullock, MT(ASCP)SBB, CLS Class of 1978, was NCABB president in 2016 and in 2002.

Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences Faculty Member Tara Moon Receives Educational Grant

Division of Clinical Laboratory Science Associate Professor Tara Moon, PhD, MLS(ASCP)CM, received the ASCP Foundation Laboratory Science Program Director Educational Grant for Technology in Laboratory Teaching (TILT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology. The grant will provide funding for equipping student laboratory benches with tablets used as learning tools to access electronic textbooks, atlases, laboratory procedures, microscopic images, and instructional videos that will create a greater interactive learning environment. Students will have ready access to a variety of online resources that provide the most current, up-to-date information for best practices in clinical laboratory science.
