RFP Synopsis:

The Gerber Foundation is accepting concept papers for proposals that focus on pediatric health or pediatric nutrition research. Projects focusing on pediatric nutrition focus on applied research that evaluates the provision of specific nutrients and their related outcomes in infants and young children. The Pediatric Health program focuses on promoting health and preventing or treating disease. Applied research projects under pediatric health are focused on reducing the incidence of serious neonatal and early childhood illnesses, improving cognitive, social and emotional aspects of development. The board is looking for 'new' information in the research that they fund that would change the way care is provided - a new diagnostic tool or new therapy, etc. They rarely or have shown little interest in research aimed at parent education or instruction. Project should have wide-spread implications for health or nutrition and should be able to have impact within 3 years of study. Awards are made to the institution. Indirect costs are limited to 10% of the total direct costs.
