Hunter L. Blanton, PhD, Parent Advocate and Educator

“Untangling Autism Genetics – Emerging Tools for Support and Advocacy”

An introduction to the genetic causes of Autism and the usefulness of genetic testing for families and individuals with Autism.

At the completion of this presentation, participants will learn that:

1. Autism is caused primarily by genetic factors commonly found in humans.

2.  While scientists have found many genes and copy number variants that contribute to autism, they have only identified a fraction of the genes predicted to be involved.

3.  Genetic testing is recommended for all those with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism. It is also covered by Medicaid and most insurance.
