The Entrepreneur, or There and Back Again

If you’re a professor, student or entrepreneur who wants to launch an exciting new venture or grow an existing startup, what are the most critical things you need to know about the journey ahead? In ten years, what will you look back on and wish someone had told you before you got started? Good news. You no longer have to play the ‘what-if’ wondering game. Join us at the next Carolina Innovations Seminar, where you’ll get forward-looking, experience-infused insights from a student turned executive who has successfully navigated the path from an academic laboratory on UNC-Chapel Hill's campus to a publicly traded company.

Nathan Stasko, PhD, who was a co-founder of Novan Inc. and previously served as the company’s President and on its Board of Directors for 13 years, invites you to come listen to the top things he wishes he’d known before embarking on his own adventure over a decade ago. Dr. Stasko’s journey has included many moments from which to distill key insights for the next adventurer:

  • Being an inventor on the core technology that fuels Novan's dermatology pipeline and over 100 international patent filings, including a dozen that have been issued in the U.S.
  • Leading Novan through private financings totaling more than $100 million.
  • Securing more than $15 million in government grants and contracts.
  • As CEO, orchestrating a successful initial public offering that included gross proceeds of approximately $52 million.
  • Ringing the NASDAQ bell when Novan became a listed company (NOVN).

Dr. Stasko plans to share a series of professional lessons and personal stories that can serve as a guide for any aspiring entrepreneur, but with several tales of special importance to life science businesses. Find out how you can incorporate his lessons learned to best prepare for the inevitable twists and turns of your own entrepreneurial trek ahead.
