 Emily Landon, MD, is an associate professor of medicine and hospital epidemiologist at the University of Chicago in the Section of Infectious Diseases & Global Health. After medical school at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, she completed her medical residency, chief residency and fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Chicago Medical Center. She also completed a fellowship in clinical medical ethics at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago, where she currently serves as an assistant director, studies the ethical implications of infection control policies and procedures, and attends on the ethics consultation service.

Her clinical interests include general infectious diseases, and she is an active member of the bone infection program at the University of Chicago. As the leader of the University of Chicago’s Infection Prevention & Control Program, Dr. Landon manages a team of outstanding practitioners in infection surveillance, outbreak investigation, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance activities, and serves as the medical director for the High Consequence Pathogen Preparedness Program. Her research interest in healthcare provider behavior has helped make her a leading expert in the use of automated hand hygiene monitoring systems to improve hand hygiene compliance.

About Friday Morning Conference

The Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases, Division of Infectious Diseases, and Center for AIDS Research at UNC co-sponsor a weekly conference series that features distinguished clinicians and scientists from UNC, local universities, and other national and international institutions. The topics are varied and appeal to not only infectious disease specialists, but also professionals in epidemiology, public health, microbiology, biostatistics and other global health-related disciplines.
