Attendees This course is designed for general education and special education teachers, psychologists, speech and language therapists, and other professionals working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the general education classroom following the standard course of study and have good verbal language skills.

This two-day workshop will focus on educating students ages 6-19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who spend the majority of their day in the general education classroom following the standard course of study.  Participants will learn about the characteristics of ASD and strategies to address educational and social emotional issues that affect success in the general education classroom. The format will be presentation, video and small group activities.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the needs of students with ASD that are served in a general education classroom
  • Develop individualized educational strategies to increase participation, initiation and active learning
  • Develop emotional regulation and coping strategies
  • Address challenging behaviors in the classroom using an antecedent based problem solving approach
