Surgery Grand Rounds, Gordon Lee, MD, "From Reconstruction to Revelation"

Dr. Lee will speak about his work in reconstructive plastic surgery and how this has changed his perspective and perception over the course of his career. A journey of continued enlightenment, reflection, and revelation, which he hopes will provide valuable insight to both the young and seasoned physician and surgeon.

Gordon LeeDr. Gordon Lee is Professor and Associate Chief of Plastic Surgery at Stanford University.  Dr. Lee completed his undergraduate at UCLA with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and graduated magna cum laude.  He attended medical school at Stanford.  He completed residency in Plastic Surgery at UCLA.  While in LA, Dr. Lee was inspired and taught by Dr. William Shaw, a pioneer in breast and microsurgery.  After residency, he completed an advanced microsurgery fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston. 

Dr. Lee’s clinical expertise is in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, breast, extremity, and body.  He has particular skill in revisional breast surgery to correct problems after prior breast surgery, such as implants, lifts, etc.  He has pioneered new techniques for phalloplasty, and performs over 100 microvascular reconstructions per year for patients with defects throughout the entire body.

Dr. Lee’s research interests include clinical outcomes in breast reconstruction, head and neck, abdominal wall, esophageal, and lower extremity reconstruction.   He has published over 150+ manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.  He is national and internationally known for his work in surgical education and microsurgery training.  He has developed several novel digital tools for plastic surgery education.  Dr. Lee was awarded the Residency Program Director of the year for Stanford School of Medicine, 2016-2017, and has previously received the Teacher of the Year Award in four separate years. He is the section editor for Annals of Plastic Surgery (Microsurgery Section), and Microsurgery journal. 

Dr. Lee is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and serves on leadership committee for national organizations including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS), American College of Surgeons (ACS), American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM), and the California Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS).
