Pediatric oncology is often held up as the model for learning healthcare systems to emulate. There is much truth–but also a few cautionary notes–in this view. This presentation will describe how pediatric oncology has created a learning healthcare culture, one on which other areas of pediatrics and medicine can build as they seek to improve both knowledge and care.

Dr. Joffe is a pediatric oncologist and bioethicist who is currently the Emanuel and Robert Hart Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Joffe’s research addresses the many ethical challenges that arise in the conduct of clinical and translational investigation.

This seminar is being co-hosted by the UNC Center for Bioethics and the Children’s Research Institute.
