Six current and two former faculty from the department of social medicine are editors of the third edition of The Social Medicine Reader, Volume 1 and Volume 2, which was published this month by Duke University Press.

The editors are Jonathan Oberlander, PhD; Mara Buchbinder, PhD; Larry R. Churchill; PhD; Sue E. Estroff, PhD; Nancy M.P. King, JD; Barry F. Saunders, MD, PhD; Ronald P. Strauss, DMD, PhD; and Rebecca L. Walker, PhD.

Here's how Duke University Press describes the two-volume title:

"The extensively updated and revised third edition of the bestselling Social Medicine Reader provides a survey of the challenging issues facing today's health care providers, patients, and caregivers by bringing together moving narratives of illness, commentaries by physicians, debates about complex medical cases, and conceptually and empirically based writings by scholars in medicine, the social sciences, and the humanities."
