For more than a decade, the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) has collected data to measure diabetes awareness, knowledge, and behavior over time. The NDEP National Diabetes Survey (NNDS), a periodic population-based probability survey of adults in the United States, provides insight on areas of interest to the diabetes community.

Sue Kirkman, MD, professor of medicine in the division of endocrinology and metabolism, and medical director of the UNC Diabetes Care Center's Clinical Trial Unit, is the current NDEP chair.

She published a blog on survey results on the website for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The most recent installment of the NNDS survey is now published on the NIDDK website
