Every year there is a fierce competition among Emergency Medicine residencies at the annual Society of Academic Emergency Medicine " Sonogames." Teams of three residents from residencies around the country participate in a series of challenges that include tests of knowledge, ability to acquire sonographic images and interpret sonographic findings. These are performed in costume and accompanied by required tasks that include singing karaoke, playing the clarinet, gambling and foot races. Our team's name was B-line Rhapsody and included Mark Hoppens, MD, Kristen Palomba, MD, and Kimberly Fender, MD. Out of 71 teams they came in first place, winning a trophy and a Butterfly hand held US machine! The many comments from observers noted how well they worked as a team and the fun they were apparently having, in addition to their superb sonographic skills!
