Claire Farel, MD, MPH, Medical Director of the UNC Infectious Disease Clinic, and Co-Director of the UNC Center for AIDS Research Clinical Core, gave a plenary talk at the 2020 National Ryan White Conference on HIV Care and Treatment.

The 2020 National Ryan White Conference on HIV Care and Treatment was held virtually this year and centered around the theme of “30 Years of HIV Care and Treatment, Innovating Care, Optimizing Public Health, and Ending the HIV Epidemic.”

Farel, along with Amy Durr, FNP and Christopher Hurt, MD, leads UNC’s Ryan White Programs. Her talk at the conference centered on HIV treatment after incarceration. She focused on a transitional care coordination (TCC) model for people with HIV who are incarcerated. North Carolina is one of three funded sites for this model across the nation. Bridge counselors work with incarcerated clients to plan their post release care. The work as produced promising outcomes, with clients significantly more likely to establish HIV care within 30-days post release.
