The ReCAPP study at UNC-Chapel Hill will assess if prevention measures on campus are keeping the research community safe.

Are you interested in knowing whether you may have SARS-CoV-2? We are conducting a research study on campus to assess if prevention measures on campus are keeping the research community safe. Research personnel on campus (including persons conducting laboratory research, human subject research, administrative support or other support such as housekeeping) are invited to participate in the Return to Campus COVID-19 Assessment Project for UNC-CH Employees and Trainees (ReCAPP) study. The research study involves regular testing for (SARS-CoV-2) among asymptomatic individuals using self-collected swabs, saliva, and blood for viral and antibody testing, as well as some questionnaires.

The research study involves an enrollment visit in-person where you will undergo a blood draw, a mid-turbinate nasal swab (this is not a naso-pharyngeal swab, so it does not go all the way up the nose) and an online questionnaire. The in-person visit will take 15-30 minutes and can be done in select locations on campus. If you test positive on the PCR test you will be referred for confirmatory testing to the UNC Respiratory Diagnostic Center. After the enrollment visit we sample participants every 2 weeks for self-collected nasal swabs and a brief on-line questionnaire, which can be done remotely with collection and drop off on campus. We will ask everyone to do a self-collected blood draw and nasal swab at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, also with convenient drop off and collection on campus.
