Call for Senior Associate Deans in Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development

The UNC School of Medicine seeks internal faculty candidates for two posts. Each will work with the Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development office team and report to Dr. Julie Byerley, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.

Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs

This position will oversee the process for promotion and tenure for the School of Medicine and will interface with the University and AAMC on these and related issues.  He or she will engage in the recruitment of high level leaders of the institution.  This role is also responsible for the oversight of reviews, including five-year, post-tenure, and annual faculty review certification.   With others on the FALD team, this leader will work on wellness, honors and awards, and other faculty-related issues.  This leader will advance the strategic plan, Forward Together.

The ideal candidate will have broad experience in faculty affairs including serving in leadership positions, interfacing with centers, serving on promotion and tenure committees, participating in faculty recruitments, and other activities related to the work of the office.

Senior Associate Dean for Leadership Development

This position will oversee the Leadership Development training across the School of Medicine.  This faculty leader will collaborate with the current program leaders to develop a comprehensive and coordinated set of programs that provide leadership training across the SOM community including learners, faculty, and staff.  This leader will advance the strategic plan, Forward Together and will engage in the recruitment of high level leaders of the institution. 

The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience including participation in leadership development programs, a national perspective on academic medicine, and familiarity with the different constituencies within the SOM community.
