While previous guidelines utilized a more hierarchical “treatment pyramid” approach, the updated recommendations for medical providers take a more customized and holistic approach that is based on the unique symptoms and needs of individual patients.

Joining Drs. Callahan and Nelson in providing feedback on the guidelines was Louise Thoma, PhD; an Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy within the UNC Department of Allied Health Sciences.
