UCRF Innovation Awards, May 7, 2010 Deadline

The University Cancer Research Fund (UCRF) announces the availability of the first round of Innovation Awards for 2010.

The submission deadline is 5:00 pm EDT, May 7, 2010.  A second round is anticipated for late October, 2010.  The revised application guidelines and the link for electronic submission will be available on the UCRF website:  http://ucrf.unc.edu/awards/.

The UCRF Innovation Awards program emphasizes top-notch, new, cancer-focused science that features significant novelty in concepts, methods, and/or collaborations, particularly interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations. Projects can come from the broad continua of cancer – from fundamental laboratory science to community  and policy intervention, from disease prevention to palliative care, and from childhood to adult.  When successful, Innovation Award projects should have excellent potential for follow up extramural funding at the P01 or R01 level.  In addition to significantly advancing cancer research at UNC Chapel Hill, results from Innovation Awards should also – over the long term -- have excellent potential for advances that can affect our scientific understanding of cancer and/or clinical and public health practice.

UNC Chapel Hill faculty and all UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center members are eligible to apply.  UNC Chapel Hill faculty includes tenure-track and fixed term faculty whose primary appointment is at UNC Chapel Hill.  Individual awards will range upwards to $100,000 per year and for up to two years of funding.

Revision of the application guidelines to increase the emphasis on innovation and impact  is nearly complete.  We expect to post the revised guidelines by April 12th.  The electronic submission process should be open by April 23rd.  The revised application guidelines and the link for electronic submission will be available on the UCRF website:  http://ucrf.unc.edu/awards/
