UNC Health Care signs strategic collaboration agreement with Siemens Healthcare

UNC Health Care and Siemens Healthcare have signed a five-year joint design and development agreement. The agreement allows our medical informatics experts and physicians to work with Siemens to improve our internal IT infrastructure and assist in the creation of new commercial solutions. Our initial work together will be geared toward the augmentation of WebCIS.

There will be no immediate changes in the look or feel of WebCIS nor interruptions in service for our users. UNC Health Care's Information Services Division (ISD) and our physician and nursing medical informatics experts will continue to support WebCIS. A new governing council for WebCIS will be formed with members from UNC Health Care and Siemens. The governance team will prioritize projects that address UNC Health Care’s strategic objectives with an eye towards expanding WebCIS' utility in the commercial market.

UNC Health Care will be a laboratory for the development of a new generation of interoperable clinical systems geared towards evidence-based practice and personalized medicine. Under terms of the agreement, UNC Health Care will receive an upfront payment and ongoing royalty payments on sales of Siemens solutions that incorporate WebCIS designs in the future.

We look forward to working with Siemens to develop world class health care solutions.
