A comprehensive evaluation of North Carolina’s three major tobacco reduction programs from 2006-2009 concludes that they resulted in substantial reductions in tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure for youth, young adults and adults across the state. The program has also resulted in model policies the rest of the nation may now follow.
The UNC women’s gymnastics team will hold its annual Blue & Pink meet on February 14 at newly-renovated Carmichael Auditorium. The Tar Heels will take on the University of Maryland in a special meet that includes a cancer awareness health fair, benefiting the Get REAL & HEEL program.
N.E.D. (No Evidence of Disease) is a band comprised of six Gynecologic Oncologists, including UNC's own John Soper and John Boggess. The band released an EP in September, and they have two upcoming shows in the Triangle.
The Medical Alumni Endowment Fund offers grant support to UNC School of Medicine investigators that will support innovative research, promote excellence in education or service. The application deadline is Feb. 19, 2010.

Michael Magee, M.D., who was once a resident at UNC and is now a renowned author, will be returning on Feb. 2 to give a lecture entitled, "Drops of Life."
This weekend, Dr. Donald Rosenstein joins the "Here's to Your Health" radio show to discuss support services for patients and families dealing with cancer. Tune in to WCHL 1360 on Saturday at 9 a.m., Sunday at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or Monday at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
This seminar, presented by Dr. Vijaya Hogan on Feb. 19, is part of the Health Disparities Seminar Series co-sponsored by the UNC Program on Ethnicity, Culture and Health Outcomes and the Cecil G. Sheps Center.
