Lane closures due to South Columbia construction

Through Friday, August 13, campus construction work on the steam tunnel will take place on South Columbia Street between South Road and Cameron Avenue resulting in the closure of two of the three traffic lanes just north of South Road.

These lane closures are expected to cause traffic congestion and delays. All UNC employees and students traveling northbound on South Columbia are advised to plan accordingly and/or to use alternative routes when possible.  Motorists can also expect congestion and delays due to diverted traffic along eastbound Manning Drive and South Road, especially during afternoon peak drive times.

Additionally, South Columbia Street between Cameron Avenue and Franklin Street will be resurfaced during the summer months, requiring the closure of two lanes for safety reasons. This work will be performed during evenings and overnight hours however, and it should not impact normal daytime traffic significantly.

Call the Department of Public Safety at 962-3951 during normal business hours with other questions and/or concerns.
