Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week Nov. 16-19, register by Nov. 7

The UNC Rehabilitation Center will host the first Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week Nov. 16-19. The goal of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week is to help educate faculty, staff, case management, therapists and nurses regarding the resources available in UNC Health Care System, so that we better serve our spinal cord injured patients.

This year the UNC  Rehabilitation Center will be hosting the first Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week. Activities begin Nov. 16 and will culminate on Friday, Nov. 20.  The goal of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week is to help educate faculty, staff, case management, therapists and nurses regarding the resources available through the UNC Health Care System in order for us to better serve our spinal cord injured patients and their needs.

The UNC Rehabilitation Center is a 30 bed unit located on the 7th floor of Memorial Hospital. Unlike most hospital settings, ours is designed to symbolize the patients progressing to their goal of returning home and living independent lives. In addition to caring for individuals with spinal cord injury, our rehab team also provides services to individuals with other neurological and orthopedic impairments as well as general rehabilitation needs. Each patient is given an individualized plan to maximize their functional abilities. These plans are implemented by the therapists, nurses, and staff and supervised by a Physiatrist (Rehabilitation Physician).  Patients with spinal cord injury are cared for by a Physiatrist who is fellowship trained and Board Certified in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, and they are treated by a dedicated therapy team with special training in the rehabilitation of this patient population. We truly have a magnificent team approach and we want you to be a part of it.
