Two of UNC Children's pediatric oncologists received accolades in Newsweek magazine's Top Cancer Doctors 2015, a list that spans more than 2,600 cancer specialists from across the United States. Julie Blatt, MD, and Stuart Gold, MD, were honored in the magazine's special health issue focused on the state of cancer care, published July 23, 2015.

"This focused health issue allows Newsweek to highlight a topic that we feel deserves more attention and can hasten change in a positive way," says Johnathan Davis, chief content officer and co-founder of IBT Media. "Our content in conjunction with our Top Cancer Doctors list make the cancer issue a must-read for the entire medical community as well as anyone who has been impacted by cancer."

Both Drs. Blatt and Gold are professors of pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and members of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only 41 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. Gold is also chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology in the UNC Department of Pediatrics.

Newsweek's list was compiled through peer nominations and research by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a research firm. Castle Connolly has been conducting this research for more than two decades.
