Effective with the Feb. 16 payday, a new system featuring electronic pay statements and forms will be available to all employees. Through this system, employees will have online access to pay history, W-2s, and payroll-related change forms.

This enhanced service benefit resulted from employee feedback and success with the electronic pay statement option. Every employee is encouraged to adopt this method of managing pay and tax information. Note that employees currently receiving electronic pay advices must create an account to use the new electronic pay statement system.


Why should I stop receiving paper pay advices?
Besides being environmentally responsible, the new electronic system of pay advices and payroll forms offers the following benefits:

  • Security:
    Payroll data is protected with the same encryption technology used for online banking and accessed via login to a personal account with a User ID and Password created and managed by the employee
  • Availability:
    Direct and easy access from any location with an Internet connection
  • Convenience:
    • View each new pay advice the Friday before its scheduled payday the following Wednesday
    • Historical pay and tax information will be organized in a single location
    • View or print a pay statement at any time
  • Conservation
    Electronic distribution and storage educes waste, decreases costs, and eliminates manual handling required by paper processes

What is changing?

  • Less e-mail
    Employees receiving electronic pay statements by e-mail will now be able to login and view/print pay statements online 24/7.
  • An online archive
    • Pay statements archived electronically from April 2008 forward.
    • W-2 forms are also available for 2008, 2009 and 2010. Note that paper distribution of annual W-2 form will continue.
    • Miscellaneous payroll forms available online

When do changes take effect?

  • Beginning Jan. 24, employees can create an online account by registering a user name and password. NOTE that employees currently receiving electronic pay advices must create an account to use the new electronic pay statement system.
  • Beginning Feb. 11, employees who sign up for the new electronic pay statement service may view or print their  pay statement for the Feb. 16 payday, any prior pay statements dating to April 2008, and W-2 forms from 2008, 2009, and 2010.

How do I access this new system?

  • Go to https://advice.unch.unc.edu, enter your employee ID as your user name select “Click to Register.” Then follow the prompts on the screen to register your account as an authorized employee of UNC Health Care.
  • By registering, you will stop receiving paper pay statements.
  • Keep your user name and password in a safe place.
